The Magical Herd

You hear a branch snap, and you spin around.

There was movement from the corner of your eye, and you turn the other way.

You sensed a presence behind you, but when you looked there was nothing.

You felt helpless, and very, very alone....well, not quite alone...

A white flowing form bounded out from some bushes, and with a scream you raise your arms before you and fall back before it. It pauses, the faint breeze making it shape shift and morph. Then with a shake, the white figure appeared to collapse to the ground in a pile.

And where the ghostly figure had been, now stood a white Faymaah mare looking at you with a curious expression. "Are you alright?" she asked. "I saw you turning about in cicles like you were being chased by someone, and then you screamed."

You were glad it was dark as you blush. You explain that she had startled you, and she apologizes.

"I'm sorry, I didn't realize that I was the thing that was scaring you. For the most part these woods are safe, though sometimes monsters come down from the mountains and wreak havoc before SunBlind can send them back to where they belong. My name is Ghost by the way, I hope it wasn't my costume that scared you so..." she indicated the white sheet lying crumpled on the mossy forest floor. Again, you felt silly.

Then you jump back again, behind Ghost's white form you see a glowing orange-red light appear. It was shaped like...eyes. Could it be one of those monsters Ghost was talking about???? Ghost turned to see what it was that was bothering you. She laughed. "Oh, that's just Vinz's pumpkin. He' a Kirrih friend of mine."

A Kirrih? One of those cute little fox creatures. Indeed, as your eyes focused above the glowing light you could just make out the creature seated upon the flaming gourd. He chirped happily. No, it was more like he was laughing. He probably lit the intricately carved pumpkin just to freak you out again. He chirped again.

Then you heard voices, "I think Ghost said to meet her over here..."

The first mare reared up as she entered the clearing and saw you. The second mare looked about worriedly. The she saw Ghost and nudge the first one. Ghost grinned, "Look what I found! Wind, Pebble, meet the *human* traveller." Ghost put a lot of emphasis on the word "human", but it was in a positive sense, as if you were something cool.

You introduce yourself, so that they'd realize you actually had a name and were just "the human." The two mares nodded back. Wind didn't seem too happy to have her rendez-vous with Ghost interrupted but Pebble was immediately interested in everything you had to say about where you were from. She asked a million questions, but only gave you time to answer a handful.

Eventually you had the feeling of having an extra pair of eyes upon you. Not just six Faymaah eyes and one pair of Kirrih eyes, but another set staring into your back. Turning around you discover another Faymaah mare watching you from the trees. A Kirrih was draped over her back. Pebble looked where you were looking and exclaimed, "Poltergeist!"

Ghost nickered warmly, "That's my filly." The Kirrih peered at you over the brown mare's shoulder, "And this is my friend Solas," Poltergeist said quietly. It seemed fitting that the offspring of two such Halloween themed Faymaah should befriend a Kirrih that looked like a fuzzy candycorn.
