The Hidden Mountain Pass

This cat was a wild combination of colours. He looked up at you with curiosity and a playful expression on his face. Soon a female joined him.

She was completely silly. She ran around the both of you in ever shrinking and widening circles. Every now and then she swat out a playful paw at the male, and sometimes at you, but never used her claws. Finally understanding what she wanted, you started chasing her.

Afer a few round, you look behind you and find that you yourself had a couple of cats in pursuit of you. When the green male noted that you'd seen him, he dropped to the ground. The winged female ran on by after the one you'd been chasing. You join the green one to watch the game.

You hear a sigh and look behind you. There was another female. She rolled over and stretched, opening sleepy eyes to take in the chaos around her. She sighed once more and curled up in a tighter ball, trying to block out the outside world. You wondered if she was having any success.

Finally the playful ones had run off back into the trees. The green male had joined the sleepy female in the nap, and you were left alone to watch the antics of the green-and-orange male.

He'd walk past a tree or two, then stop to consider one. Sometimes he'd really investigate the base of the trunk, others one sniff would be enough to satisfy him and he'd move on to the next. After analyzing several trees in this manner, he finally found one that was just perfect. With an agile leap, the dug his claws into the bark about halfway up. Within moments he disappeared into the foliage. You wondered what made that tree better than the others...
