Updates and Announcements

Yes, after dealing with one free host disappearing, two not allowing FTP without paying and one reducing the amount of space for files, I decided to do the only intelligent thing. Drop them all and get my very own domain:

http://www.myth-and-fantasy.com

Of course, now comes the painful part, and the raison-d'être of this page. While I move everything to the new host, some links are not going to work. Just about every page on my site has a "HOME" button with a link back to the old homepage. I'm not sure how many pages I've got, but its a *lot*, so things will be a little messy for a while. Please bear with me.

This move is sad and exciting at the same time. The Realm of Myth and Fantasy has been at http://members.aol.com/Bowscale/index.html since June 1997. That's nearly 5 years, quite a long time for an internet site to not only have stayed in one place, but to have simply existed. It has grown a lot since my first few pages, and has hopefully improved in both layout and content.

But this growth quickly caused me to run out of room on my "Bowscale" host. It spilled over onto the "Sunblind" host, then to two geocities sites, one tripod, one xoom and one 50megs. As you can see I'll be happy to get everything in one place.

December 2019 Last day of the year. Last day of the decade! Been a while since I added an update here. I continue to work mainly on the library section of the site, adding some new sections for creatures like Mermaids and Zombies. I also spent last year reading as many dragon books as I could, and this year I did the same for unicorns, so I updated those sections with a lot of new books and reviews.

Wishing everyone all the best in the decade to come!

October 2016 Figured I'd better put something here so people don't think this site is dead, far from it, but as before, I haven't acquired more time to work on the site so most of my focus has remained on my library section. I should probably do something for next year though, 20 year anniversary coming up!

September 3, 2012 Well, it's been a really long time since I've done any real updates. The Library section of my site takes up most of my time to the detriment of the rest of my site. Unfortunately, real life intrudes and unless I clone myself I won't be spontaneously getting more spare time. But I still love this site, hopefully I'll be able to do a little here and there. For example just today I removed some dead links from the dragon section...well it's a start!

But definitely check out the library, lots of updates going on there!

September 30, 2008 Wow, guess it's been a while since I put much effort into my site! Anyway, as usually, I keep my book reviews up to date, but most importantly, I've had an influx of poetry for you all to enjoy!

October 27, 2007 Nothing major. Still adding to the unicorn and gryphon galleries as I find artists willing to permit me to show their art on my site. I got I bit further in my gryphon lore, but that's actually a major effort, doing all that research! So might be a while before I'm done. And of course I'm forever updating the library with more book reviews and books. But most importantly, just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Halloween, and don't let the vampires bite!

May 19, 2007 Cleaned up my gryphon and unicorn galleries. Copyrights are an important issue for many people, and I can understand that, not wanting people to take my hard work and hours spent and simply glue it on their own website and claim they wrote/drew it. So I took the time to visit the sites of all the artists whose artwork I was displaying, or planning to display. Thus, the only artwork you'll see posted are those that I got permission to display. At the same time, I couldn't ask other artists to display their art on my site if I didn't do the same and display some of my own. But though I had to take a few of the galleries down, I was able to put up a few new ones. I encourage everyone to make use of the links I provide on the gallery pages and visit the artists own sites. You'll find much more artwork to enjoy there. And for those of you who want to put up image galleries of your own, I suggest to do as I did and ask permission first. That way you won't get into any legal troubles. I didn't get into any trouble, but I wanted to support to golden rule, "do unto others as you would have them do unto you". Thus I hope people will ask me first, before using content from my site, just as I asked others if I could use theirs.

May 1, 2007 10 years. Hard to believe that I created my first page a decade ago. A very simple intro page that lead into the beginnings of Unicorn Island. I was still in CEGEP (a two year school between high school and university) at the time. Since then I've graduated university and have been working as a software developper for the past 6 years. I no longer have the free time to invest into this site like when I was in school, but I refuse to let it fade and be forgotten. Thus I decided to do something I've wanted to do since I started the site, add a new section dedicated to Gryphons. I was always a little reluctant to do so, as I didn't have as much gryphon related stuff to put up, but I feel those fierce creatures deserve a place alongside the more "popular" unicorns and dragons.

Not too many sites have lasted the test of time. Many of my old favorites are still around, but most of those have not been updated since early 2000, if not earlier. Thus I am proud to be part of a handful of sites still going strong, still updating, adding content and changing layout...however slowly the change occurs. And worry not, there is no danger of of my stopping any time soon, the list of things I want to add to my site is long.

Ah, the memories...the people I've met along the way, few of which I am still in contact with now. I suppose Lady Brooklyn was one of the very first. I found her unicorn poem on a messageboard on AOL and asked if I could post it to my site. She said yes, and things really started from there. More poems, stories, new layouts, more pages, and a lot of time and effort.

But it was worth it. I hope you agree.

January 28, 2007 Again its been a while since I've reported on my work. I've been doing little things here and there, like completed the renovations to the Library section of my site. And just today I finally got around to cleaning out all the broken Unicorn links. It was sad to see how many sites I remember from back when I started this site have vanished. At the same time I was amazed at how many sites were still around. A few were obviously no longer being maintained, but others have been completely redone and are absolutely beautiful now. My next goal is to find new links to replace those that are gone, so if you know of any great unicorn sites, let me know!

June 28, 2006 Well Powweb, my site host, has move my site to new hardware. Please let me know if you find anything broken, like missing images or pages as they may have gotten lost in the transfer. I'll be checking each page out myself, but there's a lot of them so that will take some time :) More on topic, I've added a lot to my library section. There is now a search engine to help you find books on a topic you're looking for. I've also added more sections, and more books to each sections. More reviews have been added as well. Hope you like the additions. In RL, I've just returned from my vacation trip to Washington. Unfortunately I won't be posting up a trip diary like I did for Austria. My camera's memory card got wiped by the airport *grumbles*. That sucks, as I had over 100 pictures. We only took about 10 pictures on our film camera.

February 25, 2006 Wow, didn't write anything here since October. Alright, time to let you in on what I was up to. I'm still working on those pages about my trip to Austria/Germany and I have only two more days to document. Another thing I did was set up an old computer down in my basement, yes the same one I was complaining about in some previous updates. I wiped the drive and started from scratch, also had to install a new floppy drive. So learnt a few new things in the process and got a usable computer once again. I've started using it to go through the unicorn links, for the sake of avoiding viruses decided to do that on the old machine. My sister had an experience of a website doing nasty things to her OS, so I didn't want a repeat of that. And finally, I'm going to be working a bit on my library section. I have a lot more books to add to the lists and reviews, and I decided to branch out and play around with some new things like search engines and java scripts. We'll see what I can put together for that. So nothing spectacular, but I do have some ideas of what I want to add in the future. Now, if only I could quit my job and work on this full time...

October 18, 2005 I was finally inspired to finish what I started, or at least get a little closer to completion. I've moved the unicorn gallery to my new host. Took longer than expected because I felt the need to dabble with pop-up browser windows.

October 8, 2005 Summer came and went, and though we had summer-like heat this first week of October, the weather has once again turned seasonal, rainy and cold. Not too much progress was made on my pages this summer. Anyway, I took a trip to Austria a couple weeks ago. Such a beautiful country, I just had to post up pictures for all to see and be inspired to go. So that's my project for the next little while. Maybe I'll also be able to do something Halloween related this year, after all, it is October!

April 2, 2005 Would you believe it?! I'm doing actual work on my site again! It's been over a year since I've done anything major, and a couple more years since I've touched Unicorn Island. Yes, I'm overhauling those pages now and moving them to my domain (they're still on the AOL host). Created a new background set in keeping with the one used in Dragon Mountain. I have a bunch of poems and other stuff to add, I apologize to those who sent in poems years ago and it took me so long to post them. The setup I had before was complicated and required a lot of changes just to post one poem. Things will be easier to maintain now ^_^

December 20, 2004 Ah, I must admit I've not accomplished much. Fixed up some of the dragon links, adding some more stuff to the library, and some general clean-ups all around, but nothing much to report on. Just wanted to wish everyone Happy Holidays. ^.^

August 20, 2004 - I'M BACK! Been quite a while since I've been able to work on my website. Lots of things going on in real life, and way back in October of last year I started having computer problems. Between my now really slow computer, and my sister's I was still able to do some minor updates, but nothing worth noting here. Then my sister's computer up and died this summer. So she got a new OS installed on her machine, I got a new machine ^.^ So I'm back and able to work again. Sooo, much stuff to update. I still haven't even touched Unicorn Island since I got my new domain. And I still have a few dragon link pages I need to finish up, though now nearly a year has passed so I might as well go through them all again and seem if any of the links have died during that time. It's nice to be back.
