I feel like I've read this book before. Perhaps because I've been reading a lot of unicorn books this year, but there was only one other book that bothered to give the pronounciation of Ctesias. Like a couple others I've run into, this book feels kind of amateurish, with big colourful fonts, and unusual choice of pictures (not the historical ones, but I have a feeling that some of the pictures much be available on some free site since they keep showing up in books like these and aren't even that pretty). The blurb on the back adding to that feeling given it has nothing to do with unicorns but rather some ghost encounter at sea, probably copy/pasted from some other book in the series.
That said, it's still got a good overview of the legend of the unicorn across time and from around the world, written in a simple way for early readers.
And, well, that bibliography is like a trip down memory lane. I remember the websites listed, it was around the time I was building this one. I'm not sure if they are still around, a quick Google search for a couple of them turn up nothing. Ah but I used to spend hours searching the web for unicorn sites and images to collect. Now I'm too afraid of viruses to click on most links I come across! In a way, another kind of innocence lost, appropriate for the virgin capture legend of the unicorn.
