You ask me if I can forgive myself? I can forgive myself...
And so begins The Truth is a Cave in the Black Mountains, a haunting story of family, the otherworld, and a search for hidden treasure. This gorgeous full-colour illustrated book version was born of a unique collaboration between New York Times bestselling author Niel Gaiman and renowned artist Eddie Campbell, who brought to vivid life the characters and landscape of Gaiman's award-winning story. In this volume, the talents and vision two great creative geniuses come together in a glorious explosion of colour and shadow, memory and regret, vengeance and, ultimately, love.

What do I say that doesn't give away much of the plot. We follow a man who seeks a guide to the Black Mountains on the Misty Isle where it is said there is a cave that contains gold. However that gold is cursed, not with death, or ill luck, no, those who take the gold lose something, meaning. Rainbows aren't beautiful anymore. Love doesn't seem that important, hate doesn't seem all that bad. They become hollow somehow. But this tale, though short, is more complicated than even that.
The artwork was a good match to the tale and it would have been interesting to have see how this book had come about, where Gaiman would read his tale aloud and Campbell's work would have been projected on the wall behind him.
