Magic Smells Awful
Twelve-year-old Xander first meets the Rainbow-Barfing Unicorns - stinky, zombielike creatures from the magical world of Pegasia. They've been banished to Earth for, well, being stinky, zombielike creatures. However, Earth presents a new danger: HUMANS. Luckily Xander vows to protect the unicorns at all costs.
The Search for Stalor
The handsomest of all Rainbow-Barfing Unicorns, Stalor, is missing. Twelve-year-old Xander and the other zombielike, upchucking unicorns travel to another dimesion to find him. Can they save their friend, or will the plan throw up in their faces?
Revenge of the One Trick Pony
Twelve-year-old Xander is the only person on Earth who knows about Rainbow-Barfing Unicorns - except for a crazy billionaire who will stop at nothing to capture these zombielike, upchucking creatures. Can Xander protect them? (FYI: the odds aren't great).
Plump-full of grotesquely delightful characters and fantastical realms, the adventures of Xander and his team of Rainbow-Barfing Unicorns is so epic they'll make you want to puke.
Return to Pegasia
Once banished for being zombielike creatures, the Rainbow-Barfing Unicorns return to their home of Pegasia. Twelve-year-old Xander travels along and discovers a world of sugary sweet, fruit-flavored unicorns - which is a problem, since the Rainbow-Barfing Unicorns are HANGRY!
I thought these books would be kind of dumb with a bunch of gross stuff that only appears to young boys, I only picked the up from the library because I decided to read as many unicorn books as I could and was interesting in reading a wide variety of interpretations (even if they are smelly zombies and regularly barf rainbows). But know what? Xander is a great kid, he refuses to give up his belief that magic is real, even when all the other kids have grown out of it and laugh at him. And he discovers he was right to keep believing when he runs into three smelly, decomposing, disgusting, barfing unicorns. Which except for Ronk who is a little too far gone, are actually nice and friendly and quite rational beings. Well, except they can't help themselves from eating other unicorns, they just smell so good, so they got exiled to Earth which is how Xander managed to run into them. It's still incredibly silly, and it's still clearly intended to be gross, but it's also got some heart and some fun characters and it made me smile a couple of times.
