When the blue swirling clouds around the portal disappear, Sheila McCarthy finds herself alone - and in the alien desert of Arren. Before she can tell herself this is all a dream, a band of young women warriors riding unicorns suddenly appears and captures her! They are convinced Sheila is an evil sorceress - but their beautiful, silver-haired Unicorn Queen believes Sheila's magic is good, and saves her life.
Soon Sheila is training to be a warrior too - but there is little time. For the band must ride fast to Campora, the dazzling capital city made of marble, before its evil King Dynasian and his nefarious wizard Mardock can carry out their awful plans.

Her old enemy, the evil wizard Mardock, has found a way to make the unicorns disappear - and Sheila and her warrior friends must journey to an exotic land of pyramids and evil spells to save them. But Dr. Reit has followed her through the portal - and is captured by the dreaded sorcerer himself!

Calling upon the world's ancient forces, King Kumuru enchants the warriors - and forces Queen Illyria through a fog-shrouded portal! Only Sheila is immune to his dark powers, but even she cannot break his evil spell. Somehow she must destroy the ruby amulet that is the source of his power - but how!
Moonspell
Every seven years, the unicorns of Arren must journey to the distant mountain land of Ryudain to replenish their power - and Sheila and her warrior friends are duty-bound to escort them there safely before the next full moon.
But many dangers await them on this trip - including the mysterious terrain, violent rainstorms, a savage tribe who want to sacrifice the unicorns to their angry gods...and the evil sorceror Mardock. Ready to strike out at Sheila for thwarting his plans for unlimited power, he is determined to use his magic to destroy her - and any chance she has of getting home....
Its been a few years since I've this series. But judging by the number of inquiries I receive about them, they're just as good now as they ever were. Unfortunately, even when they were in print they were hard to find. And it's near impossible now. Your best bet is Ebay or used bookstores, but don't bother with online used bookstores. The few times I've checked you'd have to be willing to part with a large sum of money to nab one of these. After all, they are just children's paperbacks!
But don't let that lead you to believe they're not worth looking for. Its got adventure in strange worlds, evil sorcerors, warrior queens and of course, unicorns. Its also interesting that the series was written by four different authors....almost makes one wonder if there were supposed to be two more books. Although the last book ends with closure....it's as if they forgot to actually lock the door behind them.
And yes, I "borrowed" my persona name, SunBlind, from the book. I liked the way it sounded, and it matched this shape-shifting vampiric dragon perfectly. ^-^
