The Little Vampire in Love
Tony's vampire friends Rudolph Sackvill-Bagg and Anna the Toothless are back, scarier than ever. When newcomer Olga Pigsbubble flies in from Transylvania to flirty with Tony, Anna gets jealous. She says that if Tony really loves her, he'll join her in the crypt forever! Meanwhile, Rudolph falls for the self-centered Olga. Will life ever be normal again? Tony doesn't think so - and then he gets a bloody nose and his vampire friendships are put to the ultimate test!
As a kid there was the Canadian made show called The Little Vampire, I have some vague memories of watching it but I never thought it might be based on a series of books. Jump ahead a few decades and I'm in a local coffee shop where they have a book exchange and discovered The Vampire in Love. It was short, it looked cute I thought why not nab it for a quick read, I'd just put it back on the pile after all. Much to my surprise, there was Rudolph, most certainly the vampire from the TV series! And now not only do I learn its a book series, quite a long one at that, but its not Canadian at all but German.
Its a story about a human boy who befriends a vampire boy and his sister. They are a little, well, strange, guess growing up in a crypt you don't learn about things like TV or records. Anna also felt a used pacifier made a wonderful gift, to be fair it was all she had to give but, ewww. What I like about this story is that the vampires aren't just regular humans with fangs but they come off as truly different. They smell musty, their clothes are in a tatter, they live in a cemetary, and of course when Tony gets a bloody nose, all bets are off!
Now that I know this series exists I'll keep my eye out for it, the ones translated into English at least.
