When I read the blurb I assumed the boy looking for his father would be a child, but he's probably 20, old enough to run about an alien planet on his own, which I think made for a more interesting story. Or at least a more grown up one. And again from the blurb, I thought the Stepanerk was like a nanny or a pet or like a robot helper found in the Asimov novels, but that too was completely wrong and the Stepanerk isn't even part of the whole story, and he's only there when he's doing something he finds interesting. He is however my favorite part of the story. LEO creates the most amazing and fascinating alien creatures (as I discovered in his Aldebaran series), though I must admit I was a bit weirded out by the fact the Stepanerk had human arms/hands, that made them vaguely creepy, but I think also made it more effective as a truly alien creature. You keep thinking a dude in a costume, but you realized in now way is that so. He's able to look at humans and question how weird we are, and the humans around him generally have to agree as we can't explain half the crazy stuff we do or why we do it. I'll be honest when he wasn't around I didn't care about the story as much, not that Paul isn't an interesting character in his own right.

So I'm convinced to look for more of LEO's work, to continue reading the Aldebaran series which isn't finished yet, and to find his Namibia/Kenya/Amazonie/etc series (not sure if it has an overall series name) which was also done with Rodolphe...and that said, I really liked Rodolphe's TER, so I'll be looking for more of his work as well.
