A group of researchers are travelling to an icy planet to relieve another group trying to determine if the planet can be colonized by humans. To be honest, I wasn't sure a planet that that is near absolute zero was even worth considering, plagued with blizzards and giant predatory creatures (no idea what one could eat on this planet, very little survives in our Antarctic...), but somehow the air is breathable and one must admit the landscapes are dramatic and beautiful. In fact the artwork is just stunning, at times feeling almost photo-realistic.

But this is a harsh place and only one of the new group of researchers survives to reach the base camp. There is some predator on the planet, a Morbius, that is invisible, patient and vicious. And humans were apparently not the first to encounter it, the team finds evidence of a previous attempt to colonize the planet...which failed. The researchers want to call of the attempt as well, but too much money has already been invested in the project so instead of sending a rescue mission tho bring the researchers home, they bring more supplies to try to salvage it. Let's just say things don't go well.

The main character ends by saying that the planet will finally get what it wants, killing him. But is he the one cursed to die there? Or as someone who survives two crashes, two morbius attacks and other dangers and is the last man standing, maybe he was the lucky one? Sorta? Like the guy who survived the Titanic, and then survived the sinking of the Empress of Ireland. Was he having really terrible luck to be involved in two sinkings, or really amazing luck to have survived both? Anyway, that real-life story crossed my mind here. Regardless, I enjoyed it because there was no end of the world risk for say Earth, it was just about this guy who signed up to colonize an exoplanet and found that it was no easy thing to do.
