Flight of the Phoenix
Nathaniel Fludd's life has taken a turn for the worst. With his parents lost at sea, he lands on the doorstep of a distant cousin--the world's last remaining beastologist. Soon Nate is whisked off on his first expedition, to Arabia, where the world's only phoenix prepares to lay its new egg. When disaster strikes, Nate quickly finds himself all alone.
Will he be able to see the phoenix safely hatched, keep his accidental pet gremlin out of trouble, and rescue his guardian from the Bed ouin? If he fails, nothing will stand between the world's mythical creatures and extinction.
Too bad Nate's not the sort of boy who enjoys adventure . . .yet.
The Basilik's Lair
Nate Fludd, Beastologist, is back in the camel saddle in hot pursuit of a missing, deadly Basilisk--the King of Serpents. As if saving an entire Dhughani village from the Basilisk's poisonous gaze isn't difficult enough, Nate and Aunt Phil must begin to piece together the mystery of his parents' disappearance and protect the lone copy of the "Fludd Book of Beasts" from a sinister man who always seem to be one step ahead of them.
Pack your goggles, rue, and an extra pair of gloves and join Nate on another unbelievable adventure--there's no rest for the world's youngest beastologist-in-training!
The Wyvern's Treasure
After tangling with the deadly basilisk, Nathaniel Fludd is glad to return to England with his Aunt Phil. But someone has ransacked their home, and their best suspect is the sinister man who's been trying to steal the Book of Beasts.
Before Nate and Aunt Phil can find the culprit, they are called to Welsh countryside. The wyverns (giant dragons) are in an uproar. Could the same man who ransacked the Fludd house be behind the rift with the wyverns? And just what does he want with The Book of Beasts? But before Nate can solve that mystery, he must calm the dragons before it's too late.
It's just another day at work for the world's youngest beastologist!
The Unicorn's Tale
Nathaniel Fludd, world’s youngest beastologist-in-training wants to exchange Book of Beasts with Obediah Fludd for his parents. Aunt Phil wants to rescue dragon in well, and heal unicorn Luminesse in forest. How can he choose between love and duty?
Since I was reading all the unicorn books I could this year, and there is one unicorn book in this series, I figured I'd just read the whole thing. Every now and then picking up something on a whim you discover something quite wonderful, and this series falls under that category. Nathaniel is part of the Fludd family, famous beastologists and explorers. However his parents left him at home because he was too young to join them, and they never came back. He finds himself now already used to living in a city, not flying around in rickety airplanes, riding camels and wandering the depths of the African jungles. But taking care of rare and magical beasts is in his blood, and his best friend, well she's a gremlin. You know, the creature the WW1 pilots discovered constantly mucking up their engines (just like computers have bugs).
There is lots of adventure, wonderous creatures, great characters, humour, and really fun illustrations, some of which are drawn by Nathaniel himself. There is also mystery, who is that man that keep showing up wherever they are, trying to steal the book of beasts, and does he have anything to do with the disappearance of Nathaniel's parents? I think my only disappointment will be that there's only four books in the series!
