Coronation Volume 1
The untold origin of the Goblin King from Jim Henson’s cult-classic film, Labyrinth.
Long before Sarah ventured to save her baby brother from the clutches of the Goblin King, another young woman sought to save her child from an unknown fate within the Labyrinth. Set in 18th-century Venice, Jim Henson’s Labyrinth: Coronation is a striking look into the mysteries of the Labyrinth itself, uncovering the fate of a small boy named Jareth who would one day be King.
Simon Spurrier (The Spire, Jim Henson’s The Power of the Dark Crystal) and Daniel Bayliss (Jim Henson’s The Storyteller: Dragons, Big Trouble in Little China/Escape from New York) present a look into a magical world where nothing is as it seems and introduce Maria, a heroine instilled with courage, hope, and determination.
Coronation Volume 2
The untold origin of the Goblin King from Jim Henson’s cult-classic film, Labyrinth.
As the clock ticks ever closer to the thirteenth hour, Maria struggles through the canals of the Labyrinth alongside her peculiar band of companions, wishing desperately to be reunited with her son. While she may be no closer to the Owl King’s castle, Maria begins to uncover the secrets of the Labyrinth and her own power within the walls of this magical domain. But from deep in the shadows, the Owl King watches her every move, plotting and waiting to bring her demise by any means necessary.
Written by Simon Spurrier (Jim Henson’s The Power of the Dark Crystal) and Ryan Ferrier (Kong on the Planet of the Apes) and illustrated by Daniel Bayliss (Jim Henson’s The Storyteller: Dragons) and Irene Flores (Heavy Vinyl), Labyrinth: Coronation Volume Two continues the bestselling prequel to one of Jim Henson’s most iconic creations.
Coronation Volume 3
The untold origin of the Goblin King from Jim Henson’s cult-classic film, Labyrinth.
Time is running out. War rages at the Owl King’s castle as the goblin rebellion spins out of control. While Skubbin, Tangle, and Cible try to hold off the enemy hordes, Maria must face the King and the cost of protecting her boy from a life of misery. Up until the clock strikes 13, Maria holds onto the one truth she’s learned while facing the trials of the maze: in the Labyrinth, nothing is as it seems.
Written by Simon Spurrier (Jim Henson’s The Power of the Dark Crystal) and Ryan Ferrier (Kong on the Planet of the Apes) and illustrated by Daniel Bayliss (Jim Henson’s The Storyteller: Dragons) and Irene Flores (Heavy Vinyl), Labyrinth: Coronation Volume Three brings the critically acclaimed prequel of Jim Henson’s beloved film to its stunning conclusion.

Labyrinth: The Photo Album
Features the story of Sarah's adventures as she races against time to save her baby brother from the goblins.
If you've ever wondering who Jareth was and how he became the Goblin King you have to read this trilogy. While waiting to see if Sarah can make her way through the Labyrinth, Jareth tells the tale of another woman searching for her child. She too must fine allies that will both help her and betray her, to overcome obstacles and ultimately to understand exactly how the Labyrinth works. Only her time ran out...but that didn't mean she necessarily lost. I enjoyed the artwork in this one...except for Jareth himself, you'd think a cartoon Jareth would be even more beautiful but someone Bowie was prettier.
Next is Under the Spell and Masquerade. Together they consist of four short tales. The first is The Eternal Tournament where Sir Didymus wins the right to be the guardian of the Eternal Stench (everyone else did their darnest to lose the contest, wonder why...) Next we see how Hoggle became the groundskeeper, that guy really likes spraying fairies! There's a tale of a regular goblin called No who became something more. And finally, who were those people at the Masquerade Ball, and what about the people who get trapped in the junkyard? I didn't much care the artwork for the first two tales but enjoyed the others.
In shortcuts the tales are shorter but there are more of them (12) with a variety of artists and range of styles, there's even one watercolour. We start with The Wrong Toby (in fact, it was a tabby, poor thing). Many characters get a story (Ludo, Didymus even the little blue worm) but we also get some stories from the point of view of the nameless goblins. Pretty much every creature and location gets a cameo.
The Artist Tribute was a mix, some artwork took my breath away, others made me laugh, a few didn't impress me much. Of course art is different for everyone. But I loved that they covered many aspects of the Labyrinth, from major characters to those that don't even have a name. And the little blurbs the artists wrote about their inspirations were fun to read. There was even one by Dave McKean whom I know from the Sandman series. Of course its kinda creepy and weird, but wow...to imagine the Sandman and the Goblin King meeting...that'd be a fanfic I'd definitely read.
Tales isn't a graphic novel but a picture book. Here the tales are very short but sweet, taking place after the events of the movie we see what the characters are up to and that they all remain friends. Again, many minor characters get a cameo or two as well. Ludo having tea with the worm is particularly cute, such a tiny, very tiny, teacup...The artwork here is gorgeous.
The photo album is a bit...low def? I don't know if it was because of the scans Open Library did but the images were kind of blurry and dull. But the goblin commentary on what was happening in the various scenes was cute.
