Over at the Castle
Wake up, dragons, to a lovely day!
On a typical day at the castle, everyone keeps busy with their tasks: weavers weave, cooks cook, and dancers dance, all under the playful watching eye of the mother and baby dragons first introduced in Hush, Little Dragon. As the day passes, on by one, more of the villagers appear. Count the guards (two), weavers (seven), jugglers (ten), and more, but be sure to keep an eye out for the dragons and their unexpected tricks...
Set to the classic folk melody "Over in the Meadow" this clever counting tale has sweet surprises in store for villagers and young readers alike.
I thought the illustrations of this book were lovely, and the I wish I was familiar with the melody "Over in the Meadow" so I could sing along with the prose. A fun counting book, as the various people in the castle go about their work and the baby dragon keeps asking if he can go play (but mother keeps telling him to wait, as they laze about the meadow waiting for night). I found this one in the library but unfortunately they didn't have the other book that also looks like it would be fun (and in that case I did know the melody). Though I'm rather older than the target age group, I think I'd like to hunt down that other one, even if just to look at the pretty pictures.
