Ok...I guess it would be hard to convince anyone that I'm not a particular fan of humourous novels. Not with the number of Xanth, Myth and Hitchhicker books I've read. And now I can add Discworld to the list. Why? Well, everyone was saying such great things about it I had to at least give it a try.

And like the others, I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it. Well, I didn't even come close to hate, I actually kind of enjoyed some moments, but it's just not entirely my thing. Some moments were fun, some were just too silly or absurd, but it was short and it didn't drag. It's the kind of novel that takes all the fantasy stereotypes and makes fun of them. A wizard with one of the eight most powerful spells in the world in his head, and no other. So he's at the same time the most powerful and the most worthless wizard about. A magic trunk that sprouts hundreds of little legs and runs around following his master Twoflower, a tourist in a rough part of Discworld. A being made entirely of water. Dragons made entirely of thought...and heroes with nary a thought in their heads, all brawn, no brain.

And I can't blame the obsession of the people to determine if the giant turtle upon which their world exists is male or female...after all should it encounter another of it's own kind and decide to mate, things may not go so well for the world depending on who is on top and who is on the bottom...

Must admit Pratchett did put some serious thought into how a a flat disc world would function as a world, including directions, climates, and what happens when you get to the edge.

I don't know if I'll attempt to read all 30+ books, already I'm not sure I can keep up with Xanth's expansive repertoire. But we'll see, maybe I'll be adding to this review some day.
