Tin Stars
Ten years after planet-sized robots called Harvesters appeared and wreaked havoc across the galaxy, a young android name TIM-21 wakes to find that all robots have been outlawed. But TIM may hold the secrets to the Harvesters in his machine DNA and he quickly becomes the most wanted robot in the universe. With bounty hunters and threats lurking at every turn, TIM embarks on a mind-blowing adventure through the stars along with his robot dog, Bandit, and the lumbering mining droid, Driller.
A heartfelt, rip-roaring science fiction odyssey written by Jeff Lemire and featuring beautiful fully painted artwork by Dustin Nguyen.

Singularities

Rise of the Robots
The universe is on the brink of war and the young android TIM-21 has somehow found himself at the center of it all. As his allies and enemies gather above the ocean planet Mata, nothing can prepare TIM for the secrets that lie hidden below the alien seas. Collecting issues 22-26, ths volume represents the penultimate chapter in the bestselling science fiction series by acclaimed creators Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen. As galactic chaos breaks out, the robots will rise!
The Machine War
All the various factions that have been hunting TIM-21 finally converge around the ocean planet Mata, just as the robots launch their galaxy-wide revolutions. But nothing can prepare the young android TIM - or the readers - for what happens next. This climactic chapter of Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen's bestselling series brings the Descender saga to a close and sets the stage for the next mind-bending adventure.
I'm basically digging through the library and grabbing whatever science fiction I can find in the graphic novel section. But this one jumped out at me, the fact that the artwork is watercolour! Regardless if the story was any good or not, the imagery was beautiful, even when people were getting killed, tortured or blasted.
The tale revolves a child robot called Tim-21 designed to be a companion bot. He wants nothing more than to find his "brother", the young boy he was purchased to befriend. But that young boy is now a man, a Scrapper, hunting down the remaining robots and turning them to scrap, a bounty hunter. There is also something special about Tim, he is able to have dreams, and this attracts the attention of pretty much everyone, including the robot resistance movement. And so begins a chase across the galaxy to get ahold of this gentle robot, while his only goal is to find his family.
You know, a couple months ago I read Brian Herbert & Kevin J. Anderson's Butlerian Jihad trilogy about the origins of Dune. In that one, the intelligent machines are the evil overlords, enslaving the humans that revolt. It was particularly interesting then that in this tale, it is the humans that are the evil overlords, enslaving and then attempting to wipe out all machinekind.
Thus I was glad of this find, an interesting tale, interesting worldbuilding, mysteries to solve, and the fact that humankind may not actually be the good guys, nor the victims here, nor even were we the ones to evolve first. I'd say more but then I'm giving things away.
The one thing I wish was made more clear...all flesh lifeforms are referred to as human, but they looked pretty darn alien to me. Is this so far in the future that humans have evolved into different forms depending on the conditions of the planets they colonized? Or is human just a catch all term for non-machine life?
I've already put on reserve the Ascender sequel series!
