This trilogy is an absurd take on the theory of evolution (I won't say exactly in what way, it's part of the mystery of what's going on) but one has to keep in mind first when it was written and that this qualifies as "pulp". I don't think authors or writers were as concerned about scientific accuracy back then so long as it made for a good story. And for what it's worth, it was kind of fun to read even now. Ridiculous of course, but still fun.

We have three, independent but interrelated stories (though independent, they chain together so best to read in order) about a mysterious island near Antarctica whose cliffs make it nearly inaccessible to those that are lucky enough to even find it. Inside, it's a kind of "lost world" with dinosaurs and ape men and yet stranger things. If you're into those classic SF stories like John Carter of Mars, or of fantasy like Conan the Barbarian, you'll enjoy this too. And yes, there are some damsels in distress for our manly heroes to rescue, though sometimes it's the heroes that find themselves in need of rescuing. For me, it was perfect for reading during my daily commute to work since it didn't take much mental effort, were short, and had a lot of action. And hey, you can download it for free!
