Main Elements Unicorns

If you thought unicorns were imaginary, think again. Anatomy, evolution, life cycle, magical properties: prepare to learn just how much you didn't know about these fantastic, magical equines. A full encyclopedia of all things unicorns--an upgrade for "bronies" and fans of My Little Pony and fun for kids who love magic.

What with all the real unicorn lore out there it's kind of funny to have a book that makes some up, inventing different unicorn breeds and their various habits. But at the same time it inspires the imagination of children to become unicornologist, to seek out new unicorn breeds of their own. The colours are muted and earthy, the illustrations are nice though I wouldn't describe them as magical but then the point is to make this a kind of text book on an actual animal.

On the other hand, when there are references to actual legends and lore, the books sometimes gets it wrong, which I felt is bad. For example Sleipnir was neither a unicorn nor did have twelve legs (he had eight). I find it's one thing to invent some fun stuff, but another to get actual facts wrong.

Overall, not something that I felt bad about returning to the library, but was a pretty enough book just the same. There are better books out there though.
