Amazingly enough this book can still be ordered new! I've had this book since I was really little, and bringing it out every year is a strong reminder of Christmas, part of the tradition. And this is a Scratch-and-Sniff book! Now I will admit, and would have even admitted as a child, that some of the smells are rather sharp and not quite what the real thing would smell like, but I still enjoy scratching those special labels to release the smell. Three decades later, they still smell as strong as I remember them. And as they say, our memories are tied closely to our sense of smell, perhaps more than to our other senses, and this book is part of the smells of Christmas for me.
The story is simple, Little Bear gets up on Christmas Eve morning and helps his mother prepare for the next day. They put up the tree (which you can smell), and bake cookies (which you can smell) and put out candycanes, and hand out hot chocolate to carollers. When you think about it Christmas is definitely full of smells.
So if you're looking for a Christmas book to give a child, I'd say give this one a try.
