Odd meant the tip of a blade, and it was a lucky name.
In a village in ancient Norway lives a boy named Odd, and he's had some very bad luck: his father perished in a Viking expedition; a tree fell on and shattered his leg; and the endless freezing winter is making villagers dangerously grumpy.
Now Odd is forced on a stranger journey tha he had imagined - a journey to save Asgard, city of the gods, from the Frost Giants who have invaded it.
It's going to take a very special kind of twelve-year-old boy to outwit the Frost Giants, restore peace to the city of the gods, and end the long winter.
Someone cheerful and infuriating clever...
Someone just like Odd...
Ahead lies a thrilling, chilly, magical adventure written by Newberry and Carnegie Medal winner Neil Gaiman, with ravishing illustrations by the UK Children's Laureate Chris Riddell.

The only fault I could find in this book was that I had to bring it back to the library. Neil Gaiman proves he deserves the awards he's won by writing a wonderful tale based on Norse mythology. And the artwork by Chris Riddell just make you pause and admire each page. This is, an absolutely beautiful book and will appeal to both children and adults.
This is a tale of Odd, a Viking boy who has had bad luck after bad luck, till one day he is found by a fox who leads him to a bear in need of help while being observed by an eagle. But these are not regular animals but three of the Norse gods, trapped in animal form and cast of out Asgard by a Frost Giant. They can't do anything on their own, but perhaps an unlucky young Viking might be able to achieve what the gods could not.
Beautifully written with a touch of humour, I continue to enjoy everything that Gaiman has written and will be keeping my out for more.
