Young Victor conducts a science experiment to bring his beloved dog Sparky back to life, only to face unintended, sometimes monstrous, consequences.
I thought I would love this movie, I mean, hey, it's Tim Burton right? But I just couldn't get over the ick factor of that dog being dead and buried and presumably starting to rot, being all sewn together and there's Victor hugging it and being licked by it.
The evil other students competing for the science fair were also bizarre and a little too disturbing for comfort. And the cat that predicts things in poop...ewww. But maybe that was directed at minds younger than mine, LOL. I must admit that being a cat owner I was a little dismayed that the cat was the only one that came to a bad end...why are the cats always the bad guys? There's got to be a movie out there where the cats are the good guys?
There were some good moments though, and it was definitely unique being done in greyscale really setting the atmosphere. And if you are a fan of Burton, it just oozed his style. I guess I can't quite put my finger on what about it I didn't like but it wasn't nearly as good as his Nightmare Before Christmas. However, having recently watched some Halloween themed shows that were downright silly, that is one thing Burton never does, silly. However weird, strange, creepy, and disturbing his movies can be, he always gives his audience something to think about.
