Volume 1
Chi is a mischievous newborn American shorthair who, while on a leisurely stroll with her family, found herself lost. When we found Chi it was clear to us she was completely distraught as she longed for the warmth and protection of her mother. Feeling sympathy for the little furball, we quietly whisked her away inviting her into our small apartment home...where pets are stricly not permitted. While we dread parting with her, there is no way she can stay.
Little Chi is happy and healthy litter-box trained kitten. And while she can be a little bit of a handful, she has been a great source of joy in our lives and a wonderful companion to our young son. Living with Chi has completely changed our lives, and we are sure she will have thes ame impact with whomever gives her a good home.
Volume 2
It has come to our attention that a cat has been causing quite a stir around the apartment building recently. Property has been damaged, meals stolen and young lives were put in danger because of this feline. To prevent this kitty villain from committing more capers in our homes, building management is requesting information on the whereabouts and actions of the furry fugitive.
So if you happen to see a cat or cats in the immediate vicinity terrorizing your plants or childre, alert the building manager and beware, as these cats are armed and presumed hungry.
Volume 3
Kitten-rearing is something, but raising a street smart feline in a building with a strict no-pets policy is another story altogether. When mentoring a curious kitty, tactful tabbies must teach with patience and a firm paw. Remember, cats are a special breed. While we can survive well enough on instinct, those same feline responses can lead to unwanted attention. This long-whiskered one recommends spending lots of time with your little furballs, for they will intuitively look for mischief unless thoroughly entertained.
Volume 4
Welcome to the neighborhood, Chi and family! Now in her new residence, Chi will be introduced to many friends of the furry and feathery kind. With so many fresh smells to investigate, endless adventures await. So settle in, because here pets will never be chased...unless they are chasing each other.
Volume 5
For outdoors felines, the world beyond their home is at their paw-tips. but with a little bit of cat instinct and ingenuity, any tabby can conquer a yar, alley or even a small community with ease. And the most ambitious of kitties start young. Chi has the potential to be a wonderful shorthair. If this little one can just keep her whiskers out of trouble, she should make her mama proud.
Volume 6
That li'l runt name Chi is nothing but trouble. For some reason she doesn't seem to want to know her place when dealing with more mature felines. Heck, she might not even know she is a cat after all! But for a little one she sure does know how to get around. She isn't afraid to head off into the night, either, for after-hours feline furloughs. Maybe Chi's not that bad of a tabby after all. With some proper influence she could eventually be a little less annoying...maybe not.
Volume 7
Chi is a michievous newborn kitten who on a leisurely stroll with her family finds herself lost and alone. Seperated from the warmth and protection of her mother, desperately attempts to reunite with her family of feral cats. When the kitten feels all hope is lost, she is found in a park by a young boy named Yohei and his mother. After taking a tumble Yohei feels just as distraught as the kitten he sees before him, and he quickly takes comfort in feeling a sense of sympathy with the cat. And before she could even know what hit her, the little kitty was picked up and soon under the protection and care of Yohei's family--the Yamada's. Every moment of their daily life is filled with something we can all cherish.
In the seventh volume of Chi's Sweet Home, the titular feline heroine of this series finds herself in her biggest predicament yet. While exploring her new neighborhood with a new young feline peer, she becomes lost as a downpour has masked the scents she was so heavily relying upon for direction. Confused and hungry the two decide to hunt around the community for scraps as substanance. After searching for leftovers and meals left for other unaware pets turned fruitless, Chi and her new friend Cocchi resort to more extreme measures to keep their energy flowing.
Volume 8
In the eighth volume of Chi's Sweet Home, Chi is growing up and now that she has a sense of her new surroundings, the little shorthair is ready to make this new neighborhood her own. With the help of her furry feline friend Cocchi she embarks on some of her more ambitious trips yet.
Being a curious and increasingly self-reliant kitty, priority number one has always been locating food sources. Sometimes achieving this is not very easy or safe for kittens, but lessons have to be learned. What Chi will have to soon find out is that doors are made to be closed. Strolling into random homes, sheds or cars is a big no-no because you may never make it out again. In one such case, Chi gets in; finds what’s she was not looking for; is locked in; and eventually has to face off with a grumpy old human!
Volume 9
As Chi Yamada has shown, kittens are a resourceful and strong lot. Through play and exploration they learn to hunt for their food and to define their territory, much like the big cats of the savannah and jungle. Chi's turf now stretches out for blocks. But after a brief sick spell, she is confined to her condo home while her instincts and heart command her to go out to spend time with her stray friends.
So after a sneaky escape from home, Chi makes her way back to the company of her friends, Cocchi and Blackie, but this time she departs with a better understanding of what it means to be a "cat". What exactly does freedom or being a stray mean, though, is something she will have to learn first hand. And there may be a bit of a kitty culture shock in store.
Volume 10
It has been a long time coming, particularly in the life of a kitten, but Chi is now painfully close to finally being reunited with her feline family. But there are things that still stand in her way. The most complicated of which is whether the Yamada's be able to part with their youngest family member?
Volume 11
Nothing is more heartbreaking to a mother than losing a child. There is nothing that can replace family, and when one is lost at such a tender age it is even more distressing as uncertainty over the child’s survival weighs heavily. So if fate offers an opportunity to be reunited with that lost child, it is a mother’s duty to seize the moment and hope for a happy family reunion.

Chi is a little lost kitten adopted by a family with a young boy. At first Chi wants nothing but to find his Mom, but as time passes he learns to have fun with his new family. This manga is incredibly cute about the joys and frustration of owning a kitten, of course mainly told from the kitten's point of view. And also a lesson about being careful about what word you keep repeating in the presence of your new pet! Chi appears to be the Japanese word for "pee pee" :)
It can be overly cute sometimes, like when Chi "talks" she'll say things like "pwease". On the other hand, kittens are cute, and some of the scenes are just adorable, like then Chi and Yohei play together or when Chi ignores all the store bought toys to play with the bag they came in (who with a cat hasn't had that happen!)
Chi's interaction with the other cats in the neighbourhood is also fun to watch, seeing how they try to teach her how to be a cat and tolerate her kitten exuberance and I find myself growing fond not just of the kittens but also the cats.
And underlying it all is Chi's memories of her mother, she can't quite recall her but everyone now and then something triggers a memory of being taken care of, of being warm and snuggled up with her siblings. This is an underlying thread through the entire series, even as Chi grows, makes friends, and learns how to be a cat.
