Life of Melody is a queer romantic comedy & fantasy graphic novel by Mari Costa about a fairy godfather and a beast raising a child.

In the fairy realm, a Fairy Godparent is tasked with fulfilling fairy tales in the human world. The human protagonist's own motivations and wishes are of little consequences to the fairy working their case. As such, humans are regarded as pretty difficult to work with by the fairies, who otherwise don't seem to know much about them. The fairy Razzmatazz decides that the perfect solution to get around how unaccommodating humans can be is to raise the fairy tale protagonist from infancy to her 18th birthday. Despite his superiors telling him the idea is completely crazy, he commits to it, and by extension, commits to becoming co-parent with a beast named Bon, who found the child at the same time as him.

I'm grabbing anything fae related from the library and didn't expect to be much impressed with this one, oh how I was wrong this was such a sweet adorable story. You've got Razzmatazz who is a fairy godfather, and a "troll variant" who is the fuzziest nicest troll you'll ever run into, more teddy bear than monster. Razz is rather more high strung and can get annoying at times, but loved the fact he wore glasses and added to his nerdy persona. Its a pretty standard they hate each other but eventually learn to love each other, and the kid barely played a role at all except as an excuse to keep these two misfits living together. Oh, and I mustn't forget to mention where they end up living, though they are wandering around pretending to be humans (and reorganizing library by colour) the little town they end up at is full of witches and magicians. I began to wonder why they even had to hide their true natures in a town like that, but that just added to the cuteness too.

I loved the story, I loved the art, I loved the characters...aaargh, why does this have to be a library book! I want to keep it now!!
