A spirited child sits alone in a dreary backyard wishing for a unicorn. Sure enough, one appears -- he may be kind of scruffy, he's lost his horn and his neigh sounds more like a bark, but he's a unicorn all right. He leads the child through a wood filled with fantastic creatures. Together they storm a castle, defeat a dragon, vanquish an evil wizard and dig for buried treasure. I Wished for a Unicorn sparkles with the boundless optimism of childhood and the power of imagination. With lively, rhyming text and captivating illustrations, this book is proof that wishes can come true!

Alright, so there are no actual unicorns in this book. A boy wishes for a unicorn and a white...creature...appears (it says something about the artwork that a dog is not recognizable for what it is). But this is a tale about imagination and a white dog can indeed be a unicorn if you want, albeit a slightly short one without a horn (though it does have some bizarre tuft coming out it's head that I've never seen on any animal). And with a unicorn, one can go anywhere, from your backyard to a forest, to a castle, battle a dragon, and the best thing when it's all over, you still have your best friend, your pet dog. And you can always wish for another unicorn the next day after all! Aside from the weird dog art, it was a sweet book and I had fun reading it.
