Frog truly believes he is a unicorn. He has a rainbow-colored (clip on) tail, a pretty horn (party hat), and he can fly, too (on the swings). Goat keeps telling Frog he is NOT a unicorn. But when you truly believe—POOF, sometimes magic happens.

For some reason, there are a lot of books about creatures wanting to be unicorns and few about actual unicorns. And for some reason, it's usually the goat is the "villain" that points out the truth of things, I guess they do look a little more grumpy than other barnyard creatures. However this book had a twist ending! Instead of accepting who you are, you might be surprised at what you can become!

And yet again, this book being published post 2000, follows the theme of having poor quality artwork. I mean the story is a little silly so the art is also a little silly but really, I feel bad for kids these days. I don't know if I'd feel as inspired by a book that looks like I drew it myself. Just read this article and look at the kids books these days and see if you'll feel the same kind of nostalgia years later. Now compare with a book like The Unicorn and the Lake, a book I went out of my way to buy a copy of as an adult simply because it was one of the most beautiful, magical things I'd ever read. I don't know, if as a kid, seeing a frog turn into a unicorn would convince me I could become anything I wanted to be, kids aren't actually that good with symboling reasoning. But I know for sure as a kid I was inspired by beautiful illustrations, to dream of meeting a unicorn, and it was indeed a gateway to my current love of fantasy and science fiction. I wanted to be a unicorn too, but I didn't need a book that explicity said, "Hey, run around and pretend to be a unicorn", instead it showed me what a unicorn actually was and my imagination took me from there.
