I know it's a crazy plan and you don't need to come with me.

But I'm going to find the unicorns. And when I find them, I'm going to set the free.

In the wild Scottish Highlands, best friends Lewis and Rhona discover that the legends are true: unicorns are real creatures, darkly magical and in deadly danger.

A black-hearted gamekeeper has captured the world's last herd of these incredible creatures. Can the friends rescue the wild unicorns before an ancient promise has unimagined consequences for them all?

Lewis is a bit of an outsider. He doesn't like sports, in fact he's terrible at them, and his idea of a fun evening it spending time with his books, not hanging off the side of a Scottish cliff on a rope as part of a school outing. But it's where he catches his first glimpse of the unicorn.

While Lewis doesn't have many friends, he does have one, Rhona. She fun and quirky, adventurous and full of energy, pretty much everything that Lewis isn't. But she's his friend and when she finds out about the unicorns too, and that the niece of the estate's owner wants to profit off their horns, both Lewis and Rhona decide they need to set the unicorns free.

I really enjoyed this book, and of course being a middle-grade book they kids can't turn to the adults for help, but in the end, find out that not all adults are bad. That teacher you don't like? He might actually be a nice guy if you gave him a chance. And of course the unicorns. These aren't sparkly rainbow creatures that like to lay in virgin's laps, these are something a little darker, a little more wild, and a lot more dangerous, but they are still beautiful.
