Fritz, a pony excluded from the group of beautiful horses within the walled city, becomes a hero when he rescues the children of the city.
I could spend hours just staring at the gorgeous illustrations in this book. The horses of the walled city are not just pretty, they are indeed beautiful, and the drawings are so very detailed. Fritz may not be beautiful, but he is certainly cute.
While being one of those relatively standard story of the neglected outsider coming to the rescue of those who had shunned him and proving that one should not judge a book by it's cover, but it is done in such a beautiful way. And of course, if one loves horses, this is the book for them. I highly recommend it, and you're lucky enough it is still in print!
