This is the story of Corlath, golden-eyed king of the Free Hillfolk, son of the sons of Lady Aerin.
And this is the story of Harry Crewe, the Homelander orphan girl who became Harimad-Sol, King's Rider, and heir to the Blue Sword, Gonturan, that no woman had wielded since the Lady Aerin herself bore it into battle.
And this is the song of the kelar of the Hillfolk, the magic of the blood, the weaver of destinies...
A coworker gave me this book because she thought I might enjoy it. And I did, there were beautiful horses, desert-folk and their traditions, and of course magic. This made for an interesting combination. My only complaint is that the great battle, for which the entire novel was preparing for, was over so quickly it seemed it wasn't worth all the fuss. We learn very little about the great enemy they are up against, and considering that they aren't quite human, there was room to expand more on what exactly they were.
There is supposedly another Damar book, The Hero and the Crown, though I don't know if its a sequel or a prequel. Perhaps there we learn more about the interesting culture of Corlath's people. I know I will be keeping an eye out for it. Oh, and I also want one of their war-horses for myself. :)
