Luckily it is the Big Friendly Giant, the BFG, who only eats snozzcumbers and glugs frobscottle.
But there are other giants in Giant Country.
Fifty foot brutes who gallop far and wide every night to find human beans to eat.

It turns out this is actually the second time I've read this book, if I believe my own shelving on Goodreads. But I'll be honest, I don't remember reading this at all. I saw the movie not long ago, so I do remember that and it was what prompted me to read the book, but I have no recollection of doing so before.

Now I'm not a fan of characters with silly-speak, though I'll admit when the BFG really gets going the made up language really flows and almost starts sounding normal. I really had to laugh at Charles Dickens (Dahls Chickens). And of course there are fart jokes, though nowhere near the giant fart scene in the movie. I guess if you live hundred of years but don't have access to any musical instruments...

So in the end it was a very silly read, not that I expected anything else going into it, but I'm just not into that level of silly. I'm also several decades older than the intended audience, and well, I can't remember what I thought about it the first time I read it when I was younger than I am now. The plot at least was a decent premise, and Sophie is a solid heroine so there are definitely good points.
