Billie the unicorn encounters a horse and together they race, then check out their reflections in a pond, in the end deciding that they can be friends (apparently the horse only became friend-worthy when his reflection was distorted such that it looked like he had a horn, otherwise they couldn't be friends??). The text is very very simple but its for the ealiest of readers and it was cute enough.

However what wasn't cute were the illustrations, I mean just look at that cover, Billie's hind legs bend the wrong way, I have no idea what is shooting out of his chest, and are those purple clouds or the tops of purple trees (trees look exactly like that except green). I think this book wins the award of the worse illustrated unicorn book I've come across. I mean you pay an adult to draw what someone's child could have done instead, why?? In fact it would have been kind of cool if they did get a actual child to illustrate it, but I Googled what this artist can do (and yes, he appears to be able to grasp equine anatomy) so why, why, why make such an ugly children's book? Maybe they only gave him half an hour to do the whole thing...heck, if that's all it takes to be an illustrator I could do that in my spare time! And I'd get the joints going the right way around, and maybe add some shading, and have the cloven hooves consistent (sometime he only has three, sometimes two, sometimes, none, I think there was only two places he had all four), just really messy line art too. I feel sorry for the artist allowed this to go out and represent him, I'd be embarassed, even for a kids book.
