Introduces the origins, mythology, and folklore of the unicorn.

This books introduces young readers to the unicorn legend, travelling across the world to encounter the different types of unicorns, discussing their powers and their origins, and documenting our real world unicorns like the rhinoceros. The artwork has a nice medieval feel to it. But in the end, I've seen better overviews of the unicorn legend, this one maybe went a touch too far in bringing up obscure aspects, given this is a beginner book, but overal it wasn't bad either. In fact, as I'm reading Odell Shepard's treatise, I have to wonder if maybe this author read it too. I'm learning unicorn lore I hadn't heard of before, and it shows up in this children's book. Either way, I know as a kid, when I would play school, I would have loved to have such a "textbook" on unicorns so that I could pretend to take a class on magical creatures (note that I was playing school long before Harry Potter came out, pretty sure I would have played some magic classes otherwise!)
