Baby Dragon knows he must wait for his mother by the red fern. He knows she'll be back by morning. So he counts his claws, draws in the sand, takes a nap, and otherwise bides his time, never budging even when friends coax him to run off and play. But as night falls, Baby Dragon starts to worry. What if his mother doesn't come back? Should he climb on sly Crocodile's back and try to find her? Blending just the right amount of excitement and apprehension, this deeply satisfying story confronts a child's common fear, and offers the ultimate comfort.

I'm not a huge fan of the artwork of this book though I loved the choice of setting, a sandy beach along a river in some kind of tropical locale. The story was sweet though. Baby dragon is left alone while his mother has to leave, so he manages to entertain himself for a while, and even resists temptations to wander off from where his mother told him to wait. But eventually she's gone so long he takes up Crocodile on her offer to help Baby look for his mother. But not only should Baby have waited where his mother told him to, he also should have been wary of strangers! On the whole, I enjoyed this book.
